If you love it, stick with it. That is what a 2008 Patrick County High School graduate did, and now she has been named captain of Virginia Tech’s Flag Corps.
Sydney Martin is a junior at Virginia Tech majoring in classical studies with a minor in history. She started out on the flag corps at Patrick County getting fans pumped during Friday night football games.
She originally tried out for the corps in high school only to support a friend who didn’t want to do it alone. However, “I loved it from the first moment,� Martin said.
“Sydney is a most personable young lady possessing the rare ability of being a leader as well as a friend among her peers,� said Amy Corns, Patrick County’s flag corps director. “Her patience, control and focus set a wonderful example for other competitors to follow. Her desire to learn paired with her bubbly personality made Sydney a joy to coach.�
