Barbeque Benefit Dinner-Meadows of Dan-May 21

In honor of Armed Forces Day the Meadows of Dan Fire Department and Rescue Squad will present a benefit barbecue dinner and show at the Meadows of Dan Community Building on Saturday, May 21.

NEWS RELEASE: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Thursday, May 5, 2011 Dinner with the President Benefits MOD Fire and Rescue In honor of Armed Forces Day the Meadows of Dan Fire Department and Rescue Squad will present a benefit barbecue dinner and show at the Meadows of Dan Community Building on Saturday, May 21. Tickets for the dinner, which will be served from 4:30 to 7:30 PM, are $7 for adults and $4 for children. At 7:30 PM the Meadows of Dan theatre company, Once Upon a Blue Ridge will present their popular play, Mr. Lincoln’s Office, a Visit with the President. Peter Holland, who adapted the play from the writings of Abraham Lincoln, will portray our 16th president. Filled with many of Lincoln’s humorous stories, the play is an account of the boyhood, political career, war years, and development of the democratic ideals of one of America’s greatest leaders. Admission for the play, which runs about an hour, is $5. Christina Holland will sing several gospel songs before the play and introduce the President. Recently the Hollands were invited to Charleston, SC where they presented Mr. Lincoln’s Office in 12 of the Charleston city schools as part of the Sesquicentennial of the Civil War events held in the Charleston area. Peter Holland, who grew up in Charleston, was gratified he could present Mr. Lincoln’s story to some of the students there. “I hope that the community will come out and support the Meadows of Dan Fire Department and Rescue Squad�, Holland stated not long ago about the upcoming performance. “They will enjoy a great barbecue dinner with homemade desserts and learn something about a man who helped define what it means to be an American�, he continued. “I’m humbled and grateful every time I portray Mr. Lincoln. This performance will be dedicated to the memory of all Americans who have served their country�, Holland concluded.
