More On Buddy Dollarhite Bone Marrow Transplant-Stuart

From Pam Nowlin: It is with great joy that I share with you that a match has been found for Stuart Fire Department Chief Buddy Dollarhite.
(As a recapture-Buddy was diagnosed with Leukemia in December of 2007 and earlier this year was told he would need a bone marrow transplant this summer.)
Buddy will report to VCU/MCV in Richmond, Virginia on June 7 to begin his treatments for his transplant that will take place, if everything goes as scheduled, on June 15, 2011.
All Buddy has been told is that his donor is a 35 year old man, who is a 10 for 10 match, and as an added bonus, has the same blood type. His donor has undergone complete testing and has agreed to the procedure. Buddy's donor does not know that Buddy is his recipient.
It is likely that Buddy's donor is not from the drive we held on April 2, due to the fact that it takes approximately six to eight weeks to process the swabbing kits.

The Stuart Fire Department volunteers have also joined forces with the Fun Facts Streaming Strollers Relay for Life Team and will be holding on-line bone marrow drives periodically. We will be at Lowes Foods in Stuart on Saturday May 7, 2011 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am with one such drive-we will also be selling our BUDDY CLUB orange leukemia awareness bands for our relay team.
