Thanks to each and everyone of you who helped to make our April 2 Chief Buddy Dollarhite Day Bone Marrow Drive a success!!! We swabbed 341 people and are signing more up almost daily for the Be The Match National Bone Marrow Registry.
It takes approximately six weeks to process a kit and to find out if anyone who registered is a potential match for someone needing a bone marrow transplant. The registry is then searched daily for new potential matches.
I (along with helpers-hopefully!) will be at Lowes Foods in Stuart on Wednesday, April 20, 2011 from 11 am - 2 pm and again on Saturday, April 23, 2011 from 9 am - 1 pm to help folks register on-line for their swabbing kits. A date will be set later to assist with swabbing if needed, once kits have arrived in the mail.
More Buddy Club Bracelets are now in stock, and we will be selling these orange leukemia awareness bands in Buddy's honor as a fundraiser for our Relay for Life Team, Fun Facts Firefighting Streaming Strollers.
Our Fun Facts Streaming Strollers has added 'Firefighting' to our team name since our team along with family and friends also consists of some of our fire department volunteers as we walk in honor of our chief Buddy, Jeannie Frisco (whose husband John is one of our volunteers) and in memory of Anne Hale (Lt. Chris Corbett's mother), Donna Goad (new recruit Kandi Taylor's mother), Margaret Bryant (Captain Lemont Bryant's mother), and Dorothy Nowlin (Secretary Pamela Nowlin's mother-in-law). We all also have our own personal reasons for supporting the Relay for Life and the American Cancer Society.
If you too, would like to join our team and hang out with some really swell people (over 350 people/33 teams are already registered) on Saturday, May 21 at DeHart Park from 3 pm until..., then please reply to this e-mail and let me know (by May 6th-That's my birthday and what a nice birthday present that would be!!!) so I can get information from you and get you signed up as a team player!!! There is a $10 registration fee that is payable to the American Cancer Society...
If you are not able to walk with us on May 21, we will still take your on-line and in-person donations to help find the cure for cancer...
