Lisa Martin of The Homestead Receives Arts Education Award

This year’s recipient for the Arts Education award is Lisa Martin, senior program manager at the Reynolds Homestead, a Commonwealth Campus Center of Virginia Tech.

KENDIG ARTS EDUCATION AWARD CRITZ, VA (June 8, 2010)—The Arts Council of the Blue Ridge will celebrate its 25th Anniversary on Wednesday, June 9th at Roanoke College with the presentation of the 2010 Perry F. Kendig Awards for excellence in the arts in southwest Virginia. This annual program honors and celebrates literary, performing and visual artists, arts and cultural organizations, young professionals, individuals and business supporters who demonstrate excellent in the arts and arts programming. This year’s recipient for the Arts Education award is Lisa Martin, senior program manager at the Reynolds Homestead, a Commonwealth Campus Center of Virginia Tech. The Perry F. Kendig Awards, named after the late Dr. Kendig, a longtime supporter of the arts and past President of Roanoke College, have recognized businesses, cultural organizations and individual supporters of the arts for the past 25 years. Lisa was nominated by Director Kay Dunkley, who stated, “Lisa demonstrates many strengths—particularly her ability to partner with agencies and organizations. She is outcome oriented, eager to accept new challenges, a devoted arts educator, and an individual who fosters the university’s motto of ut prosim, ‘that I may serve.’� Lisa’s efforts to bring quality arts programming to her rural community include exhibitions from the Smithsonian Institution and the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, performances by the Latin Ballet of Virginia and Theatre IV of Richmond, lectures, workshops and classes—all designed to fulfill the mission of Nancy Susan Reynolds, whose endowment created and helps sustain the Reynolds Homestead. Other recipients include: Individual Artists: Betty Branch – Visual Arts, Roland Lazenby – Literary Arts, Steven White – Performing Arts; Individual Arts Supporter: Ann Davey Masters (posthumously); Business Arts Supporter: George Cartledge Jr., George Cartledge III, Robert Bennett and Grand Home Furnishings; Arts and Cultural Organization: John McEnhill - Jacksonville Center for the Arts; and Young Professional: Sarah Tune Doherty. The late Perry F. Kendig served as President of Roanoke College and was an avid supporter and patron of the arts. Since 1985, the Perry F. Kendig Awards have recognized exemplary individuals, businesses and organizations who support excellence in the arts.
