Ararat, VA Celebrates 1st Annual Festival and Parade

Ararat had it's first Annual Jamboree, Heritage Festival and Parade on May 22, 2010 on Ararat Highway and Dan River Park, Ararat, VA

The celebration touched the families of a large portion of the Ararat Community. It was organized by a local Tourism Committee, businesses, Tourist Attractions, Farm, Orchards, Ruritan Club and local churches.
The parade included farm tractors, antique cars, floats, Shriners Minature trucks, horse drawn wagons, horseback riders and four wheelers.
Rain threatened to halt the Heritage and Music celebration around 9:30am, but there was only a light shower. At 3:00pm heavy rain storm occurred hurrying all the exhibitors and crafters to cover.
Participants included, the Patrick County Chamber Tourist Information Table, local crafters, farms, orchards, church and civic club concessions, games for kids, historical exhibitors including JEB Stuart Preservation Trust, Patrick County Historical Society and a JEB Stuart Look-A-Like dressed in Confederate uniform.
Also, delicious home made ice cream was provided by a John Deere Hit and Miss Engine.
Doe Run Farms sold fresh local grown strawberries. Halls and Montgomery Greenhouse sold pots of flowers. Barnard's Country Store of Ararat sold antiques and local canned jellies.
8 different bands played all day under the gazebo provided at Dan River Park.
