Local census participation is currently higher than in 2000, but time is running out for residents to send in forms.
The participation rates in both counties are higher than they were for the 2000 census, said Tim Hall, member of the Complete Count Committee created by Martinsville City Council and the Henry County Board of Supervisors.
Henry County’s participation rate was 66 percent in 2000, but currently the 2010 rate is 78 percent, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
“That’s a good increase, said Hall.
For Patrick County, the Census Bureau reported that participation was at 62 percent in 2000 and that rate has risen to 80 percent for the 2010 census.
Martinsville’s participation rate has also increased since 2010. Reports from the Census Bureau state that Martinsville’s current participation rate is 74 percent, which is slightly higher than the 2000 rate of 72 percent.
