Mountain Valley Hospice & Palliative Care (MVHPC), is leading an effort to highlight the importance of advance healthcare decision-making—an effort that has culminated in the formal designation of April 16, 2010 as National Healthcare Decisions Day (NH
Mountain Valley Hospice & Palliative Care will be providing information and tools for the public to talk about their wishes with family, friends and healthcare providers, and execute written advance directives (healthcare power of attorney and living will) in accordance with North Carolina and Virginia state laws.
Starting on April 1- April 27, Mountain Valley Hospice & Palliative Care will be working with area senior centers in each community, where the public can pick up free information about advance care planning and advance directive forms.
“ We want our communities to get information and start having
thoughtful conversations about their healthcare decisions and complete reliable advance directives to make their wishes known,� said Sheila Jones, Director of Development. “Many people struggle with making difficult healthcare decisions. We want them better prepare to address advance healthcare planning issues before a crisis and be better able to honor patient wishes when the time comes to do so.�
