HWY 61 Bluegrass Band Plays for Music Assoc.-Stuart, VA

The PCMA is featuring HWY 61 Bluegrass Band on Saturday, February 27th at the Rotary Field in Stuart, Virginia. The doors open at 3:00PM and admission is free of charge.

The PCMA is featuring HWY 61 Bluegrass Band on Saturday, February 27th at the Rotary Field in Stuart, Virginia. The doors open at 3:00PM and admission is free of charge. HWY 61 Blue Grass Band started out playing together in a small town of Gibsonville, N.C. Having six amazingly talented artists with various backgrounds in music give them a great acoustic bluegrass sound. The band is made up of all very unique sounds and includes, Susan Owen on the mandolin and vocals. Susan acquired her love of music at the age of seven and after high school; she earned a degree in music, with a concentration in piano, from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. This started her 25 year career of teaching music to children in the Guilford County School System. There is Bentley Owen who on guitar and vocals. Bentley grew up in a family that encouraged musical participation, then moving on to his four year career at Appalachian State University in Boone N.C., and now resides in Gibsonville N.C. Harold Shelley on the fiddle and his various instrument experiences, brings a lot of talent to the band. Harold’s range of instruments are guitar, saxophone, bass and fiddle. He has performed in bands playing country, southern gospel, and bluegrass. Also on vocals is Cindy Tucker. In addition to singing in the band, Cindy plays the banjo. Cindy began playing the banjo in the late 80’s following in her father’s footsteps. As the newest member of the band, Doug Smith plays the bass as well as the harmonica. Doug started out at the age of seven playing the guitar, then was introduced to the world of bluegrass and now he plays the upright base. And on rhythm guitar and vocals is Mike Whittington. Mike learned to play the guitar backwards and enjoys building and riding motorcycles and cars. Also performing at February’s Jamboree is Bill and Maggie Anderson, Herbert, Tina, and Catherine Conner, The Lone Ivy String Band, 36 Degree North, and Rich In Traditions.
