Stuart Town Council Approves Partnership on Mayo River Trail with County

At the regular meeting tonight at the Stuart Town Office, the Town Council unanimously approved a resolution in support of the Mayo River Trail which begins in the town limits.

The Town of Stuart unanimously passed a resolution in support of the Mayo River Trail. The resolution states:
“Now Therefore be it resolved, that the Town of Stuart is committed to sharing maintenance with the County of Patrick to expeditiously implement Phases I, II, and III of the Mayo River Trail Project, to contribute to any expenses of maintaining such Trail, and toward ensuring that such Trail is a benefit to our citizens for many years to come�
Further, the Anderson & Associates, Inc. Project Engineer, Stephen M. Steele on the status and plans of the Mayo River Trail project. He reported:
1. Contracts have been signed with VDOT
2. Three different boards have approved the project.
3. $234,000 is now available for Phase I of the project
4. 100% of the surveys are now complete
5. 75% of the design work is complete
6. 90% of the environmental documentation is done
7. Appraisals of the donated portions of land are now being appraised.
8.. The project is nearing the construction phase as soon as the weather breaks.
9.. The project has more than enough of the 20% matching money that consist of easement donations, stock donation, additional DCR grant money.
10. No money is required to be spent by the County on Phase I.
11. The County has more contributions than is required of “ in kind“, and they will be able to bank any such money for future phases of the project.
12. Money allocated for this project cannot be used on any other project. It Patrick County does not take advantage of this allocated money, it will be used by other competing municipalities in Virginia.
