Appalachian Power Reports 40,000 Customers Without Power

According the Appalachian Power web site, the freezing rain, sleet and high wind caused power outages impacting 40,000 customers at its peak on Feb. 5 in Henry and Patrick Counties.

Virginia Feb 5 Winter Storm

On Friday, February 5, a major winter storm hit much of the Appalachian Power Virginia service area with a combination of snow, freezing rain, sleet, rain and, in some cases, high wind. The storm caused a number of power outages throughout the area with more than 40,000 customers affected at its peak. The storm had an impact on company transmission lines, substations and distribution lines. The area most heavily affected by outages is in the company’s Fieldale service area, including Henry and Patrick Counties.
