The construction of the first phase of the Mayo River Trail in Stuart, VA will begin in Downtown Stuart and roughly following Commerce Street. It will include 2 parks. Before construction begins, VDOT will review and approve the county design plans.
The Federal Transportation bill will provide 80% of the $340,000 cost of the 1st one-mile segment. A 20% match is required. Patrick County's share of the project is in-kind donations, such as grants and easements.
The Patrick County Board of Supervisors endorsed the project initially. The Town of Stuart also endorses the project.
The trail is believed to complement other enhancements planned for Stuart, such as the downtown amphitheatre, covered farm market and restrooms for the market area.
