January 5, 2010

CRITZ, VA (January 6, 2010)— VSA arts and Volkswagen Group of America, Inc., present "Green Light," an art exhibition by 15 emerging artists with disabilities that is currently on display at the Reynolds Homestead until February 19.

The theme challenged artists ages 16 – 25 to consider the motivations behind their work and the infinite possibilities that creativity provides. For the seventh year, VSA arts and Volkswagen Group of America, Inc., partnered to recognize emerging artists with disabilities who demonstrate promise in the visual arts. The largest awards program in the country for emerging artists, the 15 award recipients were awarded a total of $60,000 during a reception on Capitol Hill held in September 2008. The "Green Light" exhibition has been touring college and university galleries for two years following its initial showing at the Smithsonian Institution. "VSA arts is proud to partner with Volkswagen to create this opportunity for emerging artists with disabilities," said Soula Antoniou, president of VSA arts. "This partnership provides financial support and encouragement at a pivotal moment in these artists' lives." The Homestead’s program manager Lisa Martin encourages the community to see this extraordinary exhibition: “We are very privileged to be able to have a place in the touring schedule, and the exhibition is not to be missed. The exhibition features works in all visual media, including film, fiber, oils, wood, and digital prints. “Green Light is featured in the Main Gallery at the Homestead.
