2009 VSBA Green Schools Challenge Winners Nine school divisions receive top awards in the 2009 VSBA Green Schools Challenge. Winners were announced at the VSBA Annual Convention, at the Opening General Session on November 18 in Williamsburg. The competition was sponsored by Moseley Architects and TRANE. Winning school divisions were selected from over 51 entries, and 30 school divisions were recognized as certified green school divisions. The VSBA Green Schools Challenge is a friendly competition designed to encourage implementation of specific environmental policies and practical actions that reduce the carbon emissions generated by both the local school division and the broader community. This is the first year the awards were given out. Winning School Divisions were: Student Population under 5,000 First Place: Nottoway County Public Schools Second Place: Charlottesville City Public Schools Third Place: Patrick County Public Schools Student Population 5,001- 10,000 First Place: Lynchburg City Public Schools Second Place: Halifax County Public Schools Third Place: Shenandoah County Public Schools Student Population 10,001 & Up First Place: Alexandria City Public Schools Second Place: Loudoun County Public Schools Third Place: Albemarle County Public Schools
