Award winning musician Wayne Henderson is from the Blue Ridge Mountains, where he still lives, learned music at an early age from his father and neighbors. His unique style of finger-picking has been heard world-wide, including Smithsonian Institution, Carnegie Hall and featured in 1992 at the Presidential inauguration and has over 300 ribbons won at a series of fiddlers’ conventions, including twelve first place awards at the Galax Bluegrass festival, and the National Heritage Fellowship in 1995. Have you ever heard bluegrass played on the piano? Jeff Little comes to the PCMA with Wayne Henderson playing the piano at breathtaking speed, precision, and clarity. “Jeff Little is a remarkable musician, steeped in the tradition of his native Blue Ridge, yet also a virtuosic and eclectic innovator, NPR stated. His father owned a music shop in Boone, North Carolina that was a regular place to stop by and pick a few tunes for some of the ~ MORE~ regions legends. Little was influenced by the picking fiddle tunes on the guitar which helped shaped how he approached playing the piano. Don’t miss this astounding performance of Wayne Henderson and Jeff Little blend mountain music, guitar picking and the piano. Wayne Henderson is not only known as a bluegrass musician, but as a master craftsman. He makes about twenty guitars each year by hand, where the inlay work is done with his pocket knife. He listens to the wood and the sound it makes before beginning. Doc Watson, a good friend who sometimes stops at Wayne’s shop in Rugby, VA, to pick a few tunes said “That Henderson mandolin is as good as any I’ve had my hands on. And that’s saying a lot, because I’ve picked up some good ones. It has been said that he is the guitar master in the states. So much so, to get a handmade Henderson instrument, you will be on a waiting list for many years to come. Other gospel and bluegrass talent to be heard at the November Jamboree includes Bill & Maggie Anderson, The Highlanders, The Southern Prophets, Rich in Tradition, Southern Depot, and Jonathan Dillion.
