October 3, 2009

GED Celebration Week will be held the week of Oct. 19-23. Open House at Patrick County Adult Ed and Workforce Center.

From Wanda Whitlow, Workforce Career Center, Patrick County. GED celebration week is the week of Oct. 19-23. On Oct. 19Th we will be having a panel of 3 to 4 people, which will consist of a GED success story, an elected official & key note speaker and they will be speaking up to 5 minutes each. Leigh Ann Hazelwood, Adult Ed Coordinator will give the welcoming and introduce each speaker. This will take place at PHCC in Stuart at 5:30 in room 102 we need to get the word out so we can have the support for the GED program in PC. There will be incentives given away that night and as soon as I have confirmation on those I will share them with everyone to help us promote this. Also, this will be telecommuted out to other areas in our region. So, we need to have the room full of people. On Oct. 21st we will have open house at the PC Adult Ed & Workforce Career Center from 8-5 pm. at 11:30-12:30 we will be serving lunch. Please attend if possible. We would love for you guys to interview all of us to promote all the programs/services that are represented in our center. On Oct. 13th at the next Board of Supervisors meeting, they will be adopting the GED resolution that the Governor has declared. The reason for this celebration is to promote GED program and let everyone know how important getting their GED is and how it can lead to employment. If any of you have any questions just give me a call at the number listed below. Richard, Leigh Ann Hazelwood and myself would love to do an interview on your morning program before the week begins to promote the GED Celebration Week. Events of this week will be funded by the West Piedmont Workforce Investment Board. The lunch that is going to be served on Oct. 21st will be provided by PC Adult Education.
