Blue Ridge Parkway Paving Planned in Patrick County, VA

Congressman Rick Boucher, has announced the planned paving of 22.6 miles of the Blue Ridge Parkway in Patrick, Carroll, and Grayson counties of Virginia
This annoucement came on August 12, after Tom Bishop, Executive Director, Patrick County Chamber of Commerce urged his office to seek action on the much needed work. Bishop advised Mr. Boucher's office of numerous pot holes and missing pavement from Meadows of Dan, in Patrick County, South into Carroll County.
This deteriorated pavement was viewed as a serious safety hazard to Parkway travelers, and particularly for motocycles.
In recent days, the pot holes have been filled, thus improving the safety for our travelers.
The paving project planned for early 2010, will cost approximately $3 million and has been approved by the National Park Service Transportation Program and the Federal Highway Administration.
Contract is tentatively scheduled to be advertised in November 2009, and to being by January, 2010.
This will not close the road but will cause temporary lane closure.
