August 23, 2009
The Blue Ridge Parkway Maintenance Department has announced a paving project for approximately 22.5 miles of the Blue Ridge Parkway in Patrick, Carroll and Grayson Counties, Virginia at a cost of $3million
Congressman Rick Boucher's Office gave this report about paving portions of the Blue Ridge Parkway, mile posts 177-217.
In reference to the Congressman’s recent inquiry regarding deteriorated pavement conditions on the Parkway, we are happy to announce that a three million dollar paving project has been approved by the National Park Service Transportation Program and the Federal Highway Administration that will consist of the resurfacing of approximately 22.5 miles of mainline motor road. The work includes asphalt pavement milling, concrete pavement overlay, pavement markings, and other miscellaneous work. The project is located in Patrick, Carroll, and Grayson Counties, Virginia.
The contract is tentatively scheduled for advertisement in November 2009, with construction scheduled to begin in January 2010. The project is scheduled for completion 160 calendar days starting from the date when the contractor receives the official “Notice to Proceed letter from the Contracting Officer.
There is no road closure anticipated with this project, although the standard temporary lane closure with traffic control will be used throughout the project. A Park generated press release will be issued upon contract award notifying the public of this planned paving project.
