New Cell Phone Tower Planned for Nettle Ridge Area of Patrick County

U. S. Cellular is planning a new cell phone tower between Nettle Ridge Loop and Golf Course Road, just off Route 58, East of Stuart, VA. It will be located in Patrick County, VA.

News report Patrick County Planning Commission meeting, Aug. 18, 2009 On Tuesday, August 18, the Patrick County Planning Commission reviewed the plans for a new cell phone tower between Nettle Ridge Loop and Golf Course Road, just off U. S. Route 58, East of Stuart. Mr. Tom Scirotto, Consultant working in behalf of U. S. Cellular gave out detailed plans for the new tower. Jay Scudder, County Administrator, explained that the review of the plans is for information only, and that tonight’s meeting was not a Public Hearing. They recently published legal ads in The Enterprise, on July 29th and August 5th. seeking public comment, The physical location is at 91 Nettle Ridge Loop, Stuart, VA on the property owned by Sam Hairston, of Chatham, VA. The tower will be 250 foot high, and will be located at 1108 ft. elevation. On August 12 a balloon test was conducted by Paciulli, Simmons and Associates, Ltd, in compliance with the Communications Tower Ordinance of Patrick County, which determines potential visibility within ¾ mile distance. While no specific completion date was proposed, Mr. Scirotto said U. S. Cellular has budgeted for this tower to go into operation sometime in 2010. Construction cost is estimated to be $250,000. This location should really improve cell phone service in an area between Stuart and the Henry County line, where service is not available today. The areas near Moorefield Store, Trent Store, Nettle Ridge, Spoon Creek, Gordon Trent Golf Course and Abram Penn should also benefit from this service. News report prepared by Tom Bishop
