Virginia & North Carolina Sales Tax Holiday
Virginia
The first full weekend in August of each year has been set aside by the Virginia General Assembly as a sales tax free “Back to School� holiday. This year, the holiday runs from Friday, August 7, 2009 through Sunday, August 9, 2009. Below are links to the Virginia Department of Taxation website that details all the specifics of the holiday. In links two and three below, you will be able to find exhaustive lists detailing what is and isn’t exempt from sales tax.

North Carolina
As with the State of Virginia, the first full weekend in August of each year has been designated as a North Carolina “Back to School� holiday. The sales tax free weekend begins Friday, August 7 and ends at midnight on Sunday, August 9, 2009.
