Wayside Bluegrass Receives Crooked Road Banner-July 8-Stuart, VA

On the evening of July 8, 2009, the Wayside Park Bluegrass Festival was presented The Crooked Road affiliate banner by Keith Holland and Sammy Shelor.

News report Wayside Bluegrass Festival Receives Crooked Road Affiliate Banner July 8, 2009 On the first evening of the 2009 Bluegrass Festival at Wayside Park in Stuart, VA, The Crooked Road Historic Music Trail organization presented an affiliate banner to Patty and Danny Hazelwood and the festival organizers. Presenters were Crooked Road Music Executive Board Members Keith Holland (Galax Town Manager) and Sammy Shelor (the Lonesome River Band). Guests present for the event included Crystal Harris, Chairperson for the Patrick County Board of Supervisors, Tom Rose, Assistant County Administrator, Terry Tilley, Stuart Town Manager, and Allen Mills of the band Lost and Found. This presentation was a great kick off for the week of traditional bluegrass music, beginning on Wednesday evening and running through Saturday, July 11. The weather was perfect for this summer celebration. This presentation follows on the hills of the banner presentation to Christopher’s Pizza in Meadows of Dan on June 6. Other designated Patrick County locations on Southwest Virginia’s Historic Crooked Road Music Trail include, Willis Gap Community Center at Ararat, Patrick County Music Association at Stuart’s Rotary Field, and State Line Grocery on Rt. 8 near Stuart. Patrick County also, has a Crooked Road Kiosk, in Meadows of Dan, which is a highway pull-off with a radio transmitter. Another one is planned for the Town of Stuart. The Crooked Road: "Virginia’s Music Heritage Trail� began as an idea to generate tourism and economic development in the Appalachian region of Southwestern Virginia by focusing on the region’s unique musical heritage. Response to the concept from communities, musicians, music venues, and tourism organizations has been positive and immediate. E The 250 mile route begins in Franklin County and ends up in Dickenson County.
