The name of Stuart was changed for General J. E. B. Stuart, C. S. A., who was born at Laurel Hill, near Ararat,VA in Patrick County.
It's first name, Taylorsville, was named after early settler, George Taylor.
Established in 1792, after the county was formed and named Patrick County.
