Patrick County Sheriff Dept. Needs Body Armor

March 24, 2008

PRESS RELEASE – FROM THE PATRICK COUNTY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE. A special need exists for the Patrick County Sheriff Department to purchase Body Armor to be used for high risk situations.

This Body Armor will provide enhanced protection for our County Deputies. According to Sheriff Dan Smithy, the sheriff’s office does not currently have any heavy body armor that is designed to be used in higher risk situations. Smith says, “We do not have sufficient body armor needed to protect our deputies in high risk situations like executing narcotics search warrants or responding to potential active shooter situations. I do not have funding in my budget to cover costs of the armor. Our deputies are constantly in harms way and I owe it to them to do all that I can to protect them. Many local businesses and the Patrick County Chamber of Commerce are seeking volunteer donations of $200 each to fund this important project. Grant money is not currently available for this purpose. The cost is $1200 each and we wish to donate enough money to purchase eight of these, with a total cost of $9600. Checks should be made payable to: Patrick County Chamber of Commerce P. O.
