Leadership Patrick County

September 5, 2016

Critz, VA – (August 26, 2016)—The Reynolds Homestead, in partnership with the Patrick County Chamber of Commerce, is now enrolling interested participants in the 2016-17 Leadership Patrick County Program.

The program identifies emerging leaders, or those interested in simply learning more about the workings of and opportunities in Patrick County, and broadens their perspectives on civic leadership and community issues through direct interaction with community leaders and agencies in our area.

This nine-month program will give participants a chance to work together with community leaders and institutions. Each monthly session will offer day-long focus on different aspects of the community, including education, arts, business, nonprofit organizations, and tourism, and an additional evening program that is devoted to developing leadership skills and learning more about local government.

The program emphasizes leadership skills through multiple approaches such as site tours, lectures, small and large group discussions, panels, and hands-on activities. The program begins with a retreat focused on team building and identifying leadership styles and culminates with a graduation ceremony to celebrate each participant’s commitment to Patrick County, and also includes an overnight visit to Richmond to see our local delegate and senator in action, and to meet with members of the Reynolds family.

Those interested need to complete an application which includes a commitment to participate in each session and in an outside-of-class community service project which includes planning, fundraising and beginning the project prior to completion of the class and graduation.

Tuition to Leadership Patrick County is $125 for Chamber members or $150 for non-members. Tuition covers all costs of participation, and the Patrick County Economic Development Authority is sponsoring the overnight trip to Richmond at no additional cost. Applications are currently being accepted for the 2016-17 Leadership Patrick County class and are available by contacting either the Patrick County Chamber of Commerce or the Reynolds Homestead.

Residents outside of Patrick County whose businesses and services include this area are also eligible for the program and are encouraged to participate in order to broaden their knowledge and learn more about the county.

Anyone with questions should contact Lisa Martin, senior program manager at the Reynolds Homestead, at 276-694-7181, extension 22

All interested applicants should submit paperwork to the Reynolds Homestead by Friday, September 23; the program’s first session begins September 27. The program is limited to 15 participants, so early application is encouraged.
