Chair Aerobics

Thursday Mornings with instructor, 11:30am, Free, M/HC Coalition for Health & Wellness   

 

All-In-One Workout

Tuesdays, 11:30pm, Instructor:  Sharon Mason

This workout brings together elements of dance, aerobic fitness, yoga, strength training, physical rehabilitation and Pilates.  Cost is $3.00 per session. 

 

Open computer lab

Mondays, 10am to 3pm and Thursdays, 10am to 5pm

The Computer Lab will be open to the public. High Speed Internet Access is available.  Programs such as Power Point and Photo Shop are available. A fee will be charged for the use of printers, no instruction will be offered. 

 

Charles & Rose Hylton Library

Open Monday, Tuesday & Thursday, 10am to 8pm

Pre-school Story Time & Play Date

Spencer-Penn Centre is pleased to announce a Pre-school Story Time and Play Date on Thursdays, 11:00am.  Dreama Foley will lead story, songs, crafts and then play time with friends.  Help us spread the word and bring your preschooler’s (ages 2-5years).

 

 

 

 

“Branching Out”

We now have our Summer Camp Schedule ready.  Give us a call and we will e-mail you the list.  Lots of exciting camps this year.  Each camp will have a mid-class snack.  Children may enroll in a morning and an afternoon class and if so, lunch will be provided.  If the 4:00pm pick up time is difficult, we will also provide after class care until 6:00pm.  A $5/class discounts for members of the Spencer-Penn Centre.  Membership is $10/member or $25 for a  Family membership.  Pre-registration is required one week prior to class.  Some classes have maximum size.  Ages for most classes: 6-12 years

Mixed Media: Whimsy Girls

Saturday, May 14, 1pm, Instructor: Cindi Craig-Plasters  In this class you will create an inspirational whimsical girl.  We will use collage, acrylic paint, text, and markers.  Each student will create their own unique girl.  If you are a beginner I will have techniques to help you succeed.  If you already paint it will be a bit of introduction into mixed media.  All supplies will be provided, just bring a playful spirit and a fearless attitude.  Call the Centre to pre-register. Cost: $30/members and $35 for non-members

 

Concert

Sunday, May 15, 2pm, Kevin Lewis and the PHCC Patriot Jazz Band;  There is no charge but donations for the musicians are appreciated.

 

 

Book Discussion

May 19 , Thursday, The Spencer-Penn Book Club will meet in the Hylton Library, 3:30pm,  May’s book is The Water Is Wide by Pat Conroy which is the story of an idealistic young man in the 1960's teaching on an isolated island off the coast of South Carolina.   In June we are doing Born on a Blue Day  by Daniel Tammet.  This book is written by an autistic person and details his difficulties in coping with challenges in his life.  July's book is The People of the Book by Geraldine Brooks.  Based on a true incident, this book traces the fictional history of an ancient Jewish document/book found in recent years.  For August we have selected Complications by Atul Gawande a doctor who discusses several cases which highlight ethical issues of medicine.

 

Gun Safety Class

May 21, Saturday, 8am to 12noon at the Henry County Firing Range.  Registration is required by May 9th.  Class is taught by Henry County Sheriff’s office.  Limited to 12 students.  Cost is $45.  Students will need 25 rounds of ammo and their own gun. 

 

Grill to Thrill BBQ Pork & Beef

May 21, Saturday, 9:00am to 1:00pm, this is a 4-hour session on grilling techniques Cost: $15.00/Members and $20.00/Non-Members

 
Basket Making Class

Saturday, May 21, 9:15am to 1pm, Make a beautiful basket to take home

Western Movie

Saturday, May 21, 1-4:30pm. The westerns will be Tex Ritter in The Whispering Skull (1944) and John Wayne in The Star Packer (1934). Our projection technology has improved. No charge for admission, concessions available.

 

Variety Show Auditions

Thursday, June 23 & Saturday June 25, auditions for the August performance will be held in June.  This is sure to be great fun.  If you have a talent and would like to be a part of our group please come and try out.  Call the Centre for more information.
