Meadows of Dan Pancake Days to Celebrate 50 Years!

When are Pancake Days? This is a frequent question asked by the many tourists and local folks who flock to Meadows of Dan on two Sundays in October for the delicious homemade food
For 50 years thousands of people have flocked to the mountains of Patrick County every October for the delicious homemade food served by the Meadows of Dan Volunteer Fire Department and Meadows of Dan Ruritan members. Started as a fund raiser in October, 1965, thousands of buttermilk and buckwheat pancakes, topped with homemade gravy or syrup, exceptional sausage, and a drink, make for a full, all-you-can eat meal that supports the community and pleases any palate. In the beginning, Pancake Days were started by the local Ruritan Club who then joined forces with the Volunteer Fire Department as the event grew in scale and popularity. The monies raised have been given back to the community in many ways, including four scholarships each year, a helping hand to the Vesta Rescue Squad, Meadows of Dan Elementary School, Vesta Community Club, Meadows of Dan Community building, Mountain Top Park, Hunters for the Hungry, Harris Chapel Food Bank, and many other charities. In addition, essential training classes for the fire fighters and much needed equipment and supplies have been purchased for the fire department. Each year there are return customers from near and far, including the leaf-peepers on the Blue Ridge Parkway who never forget the fine meal and the friendly community of Meadows of Dan. On this 50th year, please mark the calendar for Sunday, October 18th and Sunday, October 25, 7:00 am to 7:00 pm, and come support this worthy event and enjoy the fall colors and a satisfying meal.
