Stuart Elementary Athletic Boosters will host the 5th Annual Covered Bridge 5K Run/Walk in connection with the Virginia Covered Bridge Festival on June 20, 2015.
Standard Registration starts 5/27/15 - ends 6/19/15 noon - $30.00
This year we will not only be offering chip timing but also performance shirts. However, availability and sizes are only guaranteed to those who pre-register.
Registration begins at 7:00 am, race at 8:00 am. Register at Smith River Church of the Brethren with transportation being provided via church vans to the starting line near Worley's Machines at the intersection of Route 8 and Elamsville Road.
Take Route 8 towards Woolwine, turn on Elamsville Road. About 1 mile down will be Bob White Covered Bridge and Smith River Church of the Brethren.
PARKING
Parking will be provided at the church.
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
The course will start near Worley's Machines at the intersection of Route 8 and Elamsville Road, then head south on Route 8 towards Jack's Creek Covered Bridge where you will run through the bridge then double-back to the starting line. Then you will turn right onto Elamsville Road towards Bob White Covered Bridge. You will run past the road to the church registration site until you get to the driveway leading you to Bob White Covered Bridge. Then you will run through the bridge and finish in the church parking lot where you registered. Except for running through the bridges, the entire course is on paved roadway, closed course with assistance from law enforcement, fire, and rescue.
These two covered bridges are two of only seven public covered bridges in the state of Virginia. You will also see a private covered bridge on the course while on Route 8.

We try to give unique awards every year with all winners in 2014 receiving a commemorative ornament of Jack's Creek Covered Bridge designed by the Covered Bridge Festival Committee. The overall winners additionally received custom framed photographs of the two covered bridges from Rick Dawson Photography. In 2013, the age division winners received matted art prints of the covered bridge and the overall winners received custom stained-glass sun catcher of the covered bridge all done by local artist Amanda Donley.
