Second Sundays American Music Series at The Reynolds Homestead
February 25, 2015
Lew Woodall Quartet - Lew's path to playing jazz may have been winding; but his path to loving jazz was short and direct. He remembers, as a 5-year old, scanning the dial of the old dry-cell battery powered radio in search of jazz and Latin stations and listening to Glen Miller and others playing jazz in the forties. One grandfather played the banjo and the other played the fiddle.

He fondly remembers
spending summer nights at the tobacco barn with his grandfather and enjoying
the impromptu jams as neighbors gathered around with a variety of musical
instruments

as a leader. His style can best be
described as driving and passionate.He
cannot read music and plays strictly by ear.Lew's solos come directly from the heart.

(Mickey) Walker on drums, Bob Bowen on bass and Royce Campbell rounds out the
quartet on guitar.

Martinsville! Lew and Mickey started out playing music together over 50 years
ago and have played together many
times over the years.Martinsville jazz
aficionados would be interested in seeing Mickey play.
Bassist Bob Bowen, originally from
McLean, Virginia, has lived in Charlottesville since 1999. He has performed at
a variety of venues in VA, NC, DC & Texas, and has recorded with several
artists, including guitarist Royce Campbell. He teaches double bass (at
